Turn Stone Into a Sink
Designer Emily Brown of Emily Lauren Interiors created an integrated sink in this bathroom. The viola marble and white oak pairing offer a contemporary look without feeling too cold, thanks to the warm veining in the stone and the limewash walls.
Mount the Vanity and Toilet
Designer Isabella Patrick of Isabella Patrick Interiors mounted the vanity and toilet to make a small bathroom feel more spacious. This approach also highlights the beautiful blue cement tile used in the room.
Pick a Sleek, Colorful Tile
Modern design doesn't have to be colorless. Isabella Patrick used ocean-blue ceramic subway tile in a bathroom to add a homey touch. This tile complements the warm brown tones of the custom walnut vanity.
Install a Unique Sliding Door
Liz Goldberg of Carolynleona selected a sliding shower door with black track and oversized rollers for added charm and character.
Mix Up Two Tiles
In another project by Liz Goldberg, sapphire ceramic tile in the shower is paired with WOW porcelain tiles laid in a unique pattern. The glass partition enhances the open feeling of the room, while the skylight above makes the tiles glow.
Mix the Finishes
Designers Mollie Ranize and Kim Serani of Dmar Interiors created a moody washroom with emerald green paint (Roycroft Bottle Green by Sherwin Williams) and brass hardware mixed with black finishes, preventing the room from feeling too heavy.
Install Tiny Tiles
Ranize and Serani used 1/2-inch penny round tiles in a blue blend for a cool, modern look. A vanity made of Arabescato marble balances the room, keeping it from appearing too busy despite extensive tiling.
Choose Extra-Long Handles
Oversized handles on cabinetry can elevate its look. In a bathroom designed by Ranize and Serani, brass hardware on a custom walnut vanity adds glimmer to the muted palette.
Hang Halo Mirrors
Designer Ghislaine Viñas combined retro and modern aesthetics in a hotel bathroom with backlit pill-shaped mirrors and yellow grout.
